Holiday Roadtrip Extravaganza

I’ve been on many a long trip with my family – we would drive from the very tip of Maine (Presque Isle, to be exact) down to Blowing Rock, North Carolina once a year growing up. I’ve made many long trips with choirs over the years in middle school and college bringing me all the way down to Florida and back. I’ve driven myself from here in New Hampshire down to Blowing Rock and back more recently and it was a blast. But I’ve never really done what I would consider a “roadtrip” – stopping at a bunch of different places over a decent span of time with someone else around during the long and short drives… I’ve always wanted to, but never found the time or places to go or someone to go with. But that’s about to change!

This Friday, my wonderful boyfriend Derek and I will start a two week, nearly 4,000 mile roadtrip for the holidays, stopping to see friends and family along the way! The trip idea first came to my head at the end of the summer and when I brought the idea up to Derek, he agreed (probably not really knowing all that he was getting himself into :P). So, the planning began and we began mapping out our route which gradually expanded and shifted and changed to what it is today. The whole trip seemed so far away as I began making preparations, but now there are just three days left until we leave! I’m so excited!

Adventure Bound (and Determined)

Spring. As soon as the weather starts getting warmer and the sun starts feeling happier, I start getting the itch for adventures and finding myself more awake and ready to make plans. The best part? I’ve already got a lot of awesome things coming up that I wanted to share with you guys (and sometimes it helps my brain remember when I write it all out).

Unplugged Weekend

I’ve started planning this amazing ladies-only getaway… The idea would be to go away for the weekend somewhere in New England that isn’t a crazy far drive where we can all “unplug” – turn off cellphones, laptops, cable TV…

Don’t Build Your Own Yellow Brick Road

We all have our own paces in life. Some people just take things as they come, figuring out the next step as they make it. Others plan things far in advance and know each step they are going to take 5 steps before they even take it. Some people keep their calendar free and clear to do a little of this and that here and there while others just fill up every available space they have with something to do. If you haven’t figured it out already, I’m one of those girls that likes to stay busy. I have a full-time job, run my own wedding photography/planning business, sing with the worship team at my church, work with the management team for a multi-day music festival in the summer, spend time working on a book that I plan to publish in the next year and still find time to have a social life (which includes awesome get-togethers like the now annual Christmas party that is coming up – so excited). I just came out of my first official wedding season in which I had a wedding every weekend from May 31-July 16 and then went straight from a one week vacation in the south to a week running a music festival. I keep busy. And I love it – I love always having some project to work on and accomplish.

We all have these journeys we go on – whether it’s something as simple as heading out to work/school, hunting for a job, starting a business or getting married and buying a house. We all have our quests like that of Dorothy and her misfit friends making their way down the yellow brick road to their endpoint – the Emerald City. I typically have multiple quests going on at the same time so my road is rather multicolored, but what happens when you run out of road? Sometimes you get to a place where there doesn’t seem to be anywhere to go, nothing more to be done and you feel lost and stuck…
